Stab victims moved to larger hospital

Seven children who were stabbed on Friday in central China's Henan Province have been transferred to larger hospitals for treatment, local hospitals said yesterday.

The seven, whose wounds include having had fingers or ears cut off, were transferred from three hospitals in Guangshan County to ones in the nearby cities of Xinyang and Wuhan on Friday, managers with the three hospitals said.

Among the other 16 injured, two are in intensive care at the People's Hospital in Guangshan County.

The attack happened around 7am, when the suspect Min Yingjun is said to have burst into the home of 85-year-old Xiang Jiaying, near Chenpeng Village Primary School in Wenshu Township, hit the woman, then stabbed her with a kitchen knife he picked up in her house.

Min then allegedly rushed to the school and wounded 22 students. The injured students are between six and 12 years old, said the hospitals.

Xiang is in intensive care, said her daughter.

Police held 36-year-old Min, who they say is mentally ill.

Investigations are continuing.
