Staff discover skeleton

POLICE in Zhongshan City of Guangdong Province are investigating the discovery a skeleton in an apartment owned by a Hong Kong citizen who was last seen seven years ago.

The skeleton was very likely the remains of the owner, who was identified as He, yesterday's Guangzhou Daily reported.

He was about 60 when he paid the property management fee in June 2002 for the last time, said an employee of the community's property management service.

The body was found about 4pm on Wednesday after property management service staff broke into the sixth-floor apartment.

The apartments went on sale in 1996 and many of the owners were from Hong Kong and Macau. The owner stopped paying his bills in 2002 and since then couldn't be reached, according to the newspaper.

A Ms Zhang who lived upstairs told the newspaper that she had lived in the building for nearly 10 years but had never met He. She had learned from others that he was an elderly man who lived alone.

The property management service got a new boss recently and it was contacting owners who had bills outstanding.
