Staff see off unpopular attorney with firecrackers

THE staff of a district prosecutors office in south China lit firecrackers and hung banners to celebrate the departure of their attorney-general who was accused of being "the most corrupt and despotic," a Hunan-based news website, voc.com.cn, reported today.

Photos alongside the report showed four drape banners on the building of Qingxiu District Prosecutors Office in Nanning City, Guangxi Zhuang Autunomous Region. They read "Go away! The most corrupt attorney-general!" as smoke rose from burnt firecrackers.

An unidentified worker at the office confirmed the report and said it happened on June 1 when they learned that their attorney-general surnamed Chen got a promotion and would leave soon.

But he admitted that the banners were later pulled off and said he didn't know why the banners were put out or anything about Chen.
