Star-struck screams? That'll cost 50 yuan

MANY Chinese stars employ fake fans at 50 yuan (US$7.32) to enliven their concerts with screams of appreciation, a former business insider revealed today.

A former entertainment promoter surnamed Hu told Sichuan-based Tian Fu Zao Bao newspaper that in Chengdu City alone, there are more than 100 such fake fans, mostly university students.

Hu said music companies or event holders offer fixed prices for their screams, tears, and even fainting while meeting "stars."

Hu said the companies normally offered the fans 50 yuan for attending a promotional event. If they could "perform better," they were paid more, up to 100 yuan for those who cry when faking excitement, he revealed.

The newspaper said that hiring fake fans is becoming a huge industry in China's entertainment businesses.

Leaders who organize legions of fake fans can earn up to 10,000 yuan a month, the paper reported.
