Starving bear kills keeper with teeth
A STARVING bear at a central China zoo has bitten its keeper to death, today's Zhengzhou Evening Post reported.
Keeper Xie Jian, in his 50s, was found bleeding on the ground by his family on Wednesday afternoon while the bear was tearing his body in the zoo in Dengfeng City, Henan Province.
Firefighters, police and medical staff called by his family rushed to the zoo and cornered the bear into another cage before rescuing Xie. Emergency doctors said he was dead after losing too much blood. He was attacked in the neck, head and feet.
An investigation found the bear was obviously malnourished and that starvation could have triggered the fatal attack.
The bear is being sent to a zoo in Henan's capital Zhengzhou City for care, and Dengfeng zoo has closed while police are investigating.
