Stepfather arrested after boy, 2, beaten to death

A MAN in central China has been charged with deliberate injury after allegedly beating his two-year-old stepson to death.

Xinzheng City Procuratorate Office didn't charge him with manslaughter because he did not intend to kill the boy and tried to rescue him, today's Zhengzhou Evening News reported.

Li Hailong, of Baqian Town in Xinzheng City, allegedly beat the boy because he woke him up when he needed to go to the toilet on January 28, the report said.

The report alleged that Li punched the toddler and caused brain damage, leaving him not breathing. Li tried to give him artificial respiration and sent him to a hospital, but the boy died three days later.
