Stepmother held after knife attack on girl, 6

A STEPMOTHER has been arrested in Guangdong Province after she allegedly knifed her six-year-old stepdaughter, cutting off four of her fingers and an ear on New Year's Day, Guangzhou Daily reported today.

Feng Baohua allegedly pulled the girl into the kitchen and cut her left ear off with kitchen knife. As blood spilled on the floor and the girl's cries alerted neighbors, Feng caught her and cut off four fingers from her right hand, the report said.

"I've never seen such a cruel mother," Liang Zutian, the security director of Hefeng Village in Foshan City, said yesterday.

Father Huo Rixiong left the girl in a local hospital with 6,000 yuan (US$878) to cover her treatment fees.

Villagers told the newspaper that Feng and Huo got married 12 years ago but had no baby at first. Huo had the daughter with another woman. Then Feng had two babies of her own in the past two years.
