A STORM plunged Beijing into darkness at midday yesterday. Street lights in the Chinese capital came on just before noon. Cars inched along the streets with their headlights on, and office buildings switched on their night lights as lightning and rain struck the city. Flights at Beijing's Capital International Airport were delayed slightly.
