NEARLY all this morning's flights from Shangai to Beijing were delayed by a thunderstorm that forced mass flight cancellations and delays at Beijing Capital International Airport.

By 12:30pm, 201 flights had been canceled and 414 flights delayed since the storm started at 7:22am, Sina.com reported.

Local weathermen forecast sporadic storms for the day with medium rainfall. By 10:30am, rainfall had hit 16.2 millimeters.

The airport has switched on an emergency response plan and is updating flight information in public media.

At the airport, as well as immediate Chinese language flight information, updates in English are announced every 10 minutes.
