Stressed by train crash, China Signal Group CEO dies of heart attack
MA Cheng, the CEO of China Railway Communication Signal Corporation (China Signal Group), died of a heart attack yesterday. He was considered a leader in the country's railway signal sector.
The corporation provided signal equipment for the Ningbo–Taizhou–Wenzhou Railway and the logic error of its signal equipment was blamed as the cause of the July 23 bullet train crash that killed 40 people in Wenzhou, Caixin Weekly reported today.
The tragic accident put great stress on everyone in the railway business. A colleague said Ma was overwhelmed by his burden and responsibility. "He never had a heart problem before the accident. Now he died of a heart attack."
Huang Yi, the spokesman for the China Work Safety Committee, said: "The Wenzhou bullet train crash was an accident caused by negligence. It could have been avoided."
Initial investigation showed a design flaw in the signal equipment plus poor safety management led to the collision.
