More metro lines are under construction and Beijing aims to promote the efficiency of its bus service. Estimations show it will take just one hour to commute from the outskirts to central Beijing in the future, reported Beijing Morning Post.
According to the "Green Beijing" plan launched yesterday, Beijing intends to strengthen the control of pollutants discharged by vehicles, widen non-vehicle paths and promote electric vehicle charging stations.
Beijing citizens are also encouraged to drive green cars or ride bicycles.
Under the controls more than 400,000 vehicles, which do not meet the new standards, will fall into disuse and Beijing strives to be the first city to implement China V Emission standards in 2012.
