'Strict' teacher favored

YAN Yanhong, 20-year-old kindergarten teacher detained for investigation of child abuse in Zhejiang Province, was favored by many parents as a strict, responsible and polite teacher, the Oriental Morning Post said.
The young woman sparked public anger after a picture posted on the web a week ago showed her hoisting a student by his ears. The child is crying in pain as Yan is smiling. She is reported to have abused other children and said that she held the child that way "just for fun."
Yan is from a poor farm family, and neighbors said she was a "good and polite girl" who loved to play alone. Yan's colleagues told the newspaper she always wore stylish clothing, but she seldom talked with them.
