Striding toward record in 405kg iron shoes
A MAN from north China’s Hebei Province said yesterday that he plans to apply for a place in the “Guinness Book of World Records” for walking in iron shoes weighing seven times his own weight.
Zhang Fuxing, 51, a resident of Fengnan District in Tangshan City, practices daily exercises wearing iron shoes which weigh 405 kilograms — seven times Zhang’s weight.
The shoes are 30 centimeters long with a width of 20cm, but the sole is made of welded iron layers to a height of 40cm.
Zhang spends 20 minutes walking in the iron shoes every morning, covering about a dozen meters. He leaves them in his courtyard because, “they’re so heavy that I don’t worry about them being stolen.”
Zhang has done exercises in the shoes for over seven years. He works in a local factory and made the shoes himself.
Initially he made a pair weighing 70kg and has added weight over the years.
