Strong earthquake hits east Taiwan

A strong earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale struck east Taiwan today, according to the island's seismological agency.

The quake struck at 10:59 am this morning and it was felt in most parts of the island.

The epicenter was monitored at 22.52 degrees north latitude and 123.33 degrees east longitude, which was about 190 km to the northeast of the Lanyu Island.

No casualties have been reported so far.
