Strong winds, hail lash Hebei areas
STRONG winds and hail hit north China's Hebei Province, killing one person and injuring 23 others on Thursday and Friday, the local authority said yesterday.
The disaster affected about 2.7 million people in Shijiazhuang, Xingtai and Hengshui cities and losses were estimated to be 2.34 billion yuan (US$342.6 million), a government spokesman said.
The diameter of the largest hail stone was 4 centimeters, he said. Wind speeds up to 28.4 meters per second were recorded.
The death and injuries were sustained when a prefabricated house in Luancheng County collapsed in a rainstorm.
