Student dies after classmates' attack

POLICE in Jiangsu Province have detained a student who allegedly beat his classmate to death, Oriental Morning Post reported today.

A 14-year-old student surnamed Xu came to a middle school in Funing County, Jiangsu, to sit an examination last Saturday.

Police said four classmates fought Xu for about half an hour before the examination. After the examination had begun Xu collapsed and was sent to hospital but showed no signs of life on arrival.

Police said witnesses told them that Xu had provoked his four classmates. One student said they had bashed his head against a wall twice during the fight.

Police said Xu was thrown to the ground by one of the attackers and death was probably caused by brain damage. Xu's family found bruising over his body and have asked the police to detain any other students involved in the fight.

Xu's family also asked the school to take responsibility as no teacher stopped the fight.
