Student driver awaits trial for intentional murder

A COLLEGE student arrested for stabbing a woman to death after hitting her with his car in Shaanxi Province claimed he worried the victim might be a rural resident who would constantly use the accident to harass him and thus decided to kill her.

The driver, Yao Jiaxin, 21, said his hair turned white overnight due to the overwhelming pressure after he was put into detention center on November 23, China Business View reported today.

He said his mind went blanked after the road accident and he took out a fruit knife to stab the woman eight times to stop her from memorizing his plate number on October 20.

Yao, a junior student at the Xi'an Conservatory of Music in the city of Xi'an, was a new hand and just got his license in September. He is also severely shortsighted, the newspaper said.

Yao was arrested last Thursday and could face penalties from ten years in prison up to death sentence, said Xu Tao, the lawyer for the victim's family.
