A 22-YEAR-OLD university student who killed a law professor who had a love affair with his girlfriend, went on trial for murder today in Beijing.

The Beijing No. 1 Intermediate People's Court heard the case today, Beijing Evening News reported.

Professor Cheng Chunming had worked for China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing.

Fu Chengli stabbed Professor Cheng, 43, with a kitchen knife in a classroom at the university on October 28,2008. He surrendered to police soon after the killing.

Fu did not know Cheng but he felt no remorse for what he had done, he told police. Fu said he killed Cheng because he suspected that Cheng had had a love affair with his girlfriend.

It was also a warning to other teachers who had affairs with female students, Fu told police according to earlier reports.
