Student stabbed to death, 5 others hurt
Police have detained a university student after a fellow student was stabbed to death and another five injured in an attack at Kunming Medical University in southwest China’s Yunnan Province.
Police said the 20-year-old student, surnamed Wang, had rushed into a classroom at the university yesterday afternoon brandishing a dagger.
Three of the injured are in a serious condition in hospital while the other two were slightly injured.
Police received an emergency call at 3:17pm about a fight in which a number of people had been injured at the university’s Haiyuan College.
A nearby patrol rushed to the scene and, with the help of security guards, subdued the alleged attacker.
Pictures posted online showed two students lying in a pool of blood with doctors in white coats giving them medical aid.
Police in Kunming, the provincial capital, said an initial investigation had found Wang to be suffering from depression.
Wang, a native of Tianmen in central China’s Hubei Province, had been a student at the university since 2013.
