Student studying at US college arrested in homeland for allegedly strangling girlfriend over love conflict
A Chinese overseas student, suspected of killing his girlfriend and later fleeing China, has been recently arrested, Xinhua News Agency reported on Tuesday.
The suspect, Li Xiangnan, 23, and his girlfriend, Shao Tong, 20, were both students at the Iowa State University in US.
On September 26, 2014, Shao’s body was found stuffed in the trunk of her car outside an apartment in Iowa City.
An initial investigation discovered that they had love disputes in early September of 2014. In a few hours on September 7, Li chokes Shao and afterwards took a flight back to China.
On May this year, Li handed himself over to the police of his homeland in Wenzhou City in east China’s Zhejiang Province. On June 16, he was arrested for murder.
