Student used 7 identities to blackmail policeman

A FEMALE university student has been jailed for five years for extorting more than 300,000 yuan (US$47,238) from a police officer by pretending to be seven different people and threatening to expose his affair.
The 21-year-old student at Beijing's Communication University of China, surnamed Yang, met the railway policeman surnamed Li online in June last year calling herself "Zhang Ran." Li fell in love with her, Beijing No. 2 Intermediate Court heard.
But when they first met in real life, Yang claimed to be her cousin "Yang Fei," telling Li that "Zhang Ran" wasn't available. They had sex after having dinner and singing in a KTV, according to yesterday's Beijing Times.
Online the next day, Yang rebuked him for having sex with her "cousin." Li, not knowing they were the same person, apologized. But he would continue to date "Yang Fei" while chatting with "Zhang Ran" online.
Yang then began to ask for money from Li, threatening to expose the affair if he refused, the court said.
She falsely told Li her father was deputy director of the Hebei Province Public Security Department and would arrest him if he didn't give her money.
Yang pretended to be five other people, the parents and relatives of "Yang Fei" and "Zhang Ran," to put pressure on the officer. Li became so desperate he even considered selling a kidney to get money for Yang, the court heard.
While all this was going on, Li's wife divorced him. Eventually, in August, he went to the police.
The court heard that Yang's parents were teachers and no one in her family worked for the public security administration.
Yang said she hadn't intended to cheat Li because it was normal to use fake names on the Internet. She blamed Li for having sex with her.
Yang is appealing the jail sentence.
