Students volunteer for anti-pickpocket patrol
POLICE in Zhengzhou City in eastern China's Henan Province will select 2,000 university students as anti-pickpocket volunteers.
Students from 21 universities and colleges will patrol in public areas such as hospitals and shopping malls every weekend, China Youth Daily reported today.
They are now receiving training and will wear red armbands to identify them and work in groups, the report said.
The campaign aims to prevent thefts rather than let student catch thieves, said police officer Liu Wei. "The safety of students is our first concern."
Police hope the campaign can raise public awareness about preventing thefts.
