Suicidal Protest Wins Compensation
THE family of two people who set themselves on fire in eastern China's Jiangsu Province have reached agreement with the local government over compensation, a government spokesperson said yesterday.
Last Saturday, farmer Tao Huixi died and his father was injured after they set themselves on fire to protest the demolition of their pig farm in Huangchuan Township, Donghai County.
The 900,000-yuan (US$132,000) compensation is for both the demolition and the farmer's death, said brother Tao Huixiang.
A government spokesman said township head Zhou Wenjun has been suspended.
