Summer holiday spent in the dump
A boy carries a plastic bag as he spends his summer holiday rummaging at a landfill site in Guiyang, capital of southwest China's Guizhou Province.
The rubbish dump is the biggest site for the disposal of waste around Guizhou and is capable of handling 800 tons a day. The boy and dozens of his peers live around the site with their parents.
A family of three usually picks up garbage eight hours a day to earn around 700 to 800 yuan (US$125) a month. More than 100 families live near the dump.
Some of the children reject school education, instead inheriting the collection business from their parents.
