Sunday peace shattered by exploding appliances
ELECTRIC appliances of over one hundred families in two buildings in Chongqing suddenly exploded while two workers were repairing a nearby electric circuit box yesterday afternoon, Chongqing Economic Times reported.
No casualties were reported and the extent of the residents' loss is unknown. According to Chongqing Electric Service, the cause of the explosion was still under investigation.
Residents at No. 91 and No. 93 Yubei Road told the newspaper that the explosion occurred at about 3pm.
A resident surnamed Liu who lives on the fourth floor of No. 91 Yubei Rd said he and his wife were peacefully watching a program when their television set suddenly made a loud bang and started smoking. The same happened to his fridge, air-conditioner and computer.
An Internet bar owner surnamed Lin told the newspaper that he had called the electric company that afternoon to complain about low electric voltage. Soon two workers arrived and started working on a circuit box behind the bar. After about 10 minutes, all the computers, screens and lights in the bar exploded.
Community representatives said they had reported the incident to the Chongqing electric administration in the hope that they could help the residents deal with the broken appliances.
