Surgical clamp the culprit of man's belly pains for 37 years

Doctors in central China's Hubei Province finally removed the source of a man's enduring stomachache – a hemostatic clamp left inside his body after a surgery 37 years ago.

The 67-year-old patient surnamed Liu is recovering in the Xiantao City People's Hospital after the 10-centimeter-long surgical clamp was taken out of his belly, the local Chutian Metropolis Daily reported today.

The surgical instrument reminded Liu of a surgery he had in 1974 to treat his stomach ulcer. Liu said he still felt stomachache afterwards and relied on medication to relieve pains.

Liu went to the Xiantao City People's Hospital on July 17. An X-ray test found the clamp in his body and an operation was conducted immediately to remove it.

Luckily, the doctors said, the tool did not give much damage to Liu's body as it was tightly bound by omentum to prevent it from hurting other tissues.
