Survivors of Yangtze cruise tragedy fewer than thought
CHINA has revised down the number of survivors of the Yangtze River cruise ship tragedy, saying that only 12, not 14, people escaped alive, Xinhua news agency said yesterday.
All 454 people aboard the “Eastern Star” have now been accounted for, the report said, adding the error was due to duplications in the initial counting process. There were 403 tourists, five tour agency workers and 46 crew on board when the boat sank on June 1 after being hit by a freak storm.
