Suspect captured in central China bank explosion
A man suspected of causing an explosion that occurred in central China's city of Wuhan earlier this month was arrested this noon, local police said today.
Wang Haijian was arrested on suspicion of causing an explosion near a China Construction Bank branch in the city's Hongshan district on December 1, leaving two people dead, one of them a 13-year-old girl, and 15 injured.
Wang confessed he planned the explosion in an attempt to hijack a money transport vehicle, Xinhua news agency reported today.
He was seized in a hospital in Wuhan.
A further investigation is under way.
Police said earlier their preliminary investigation found unknown objects piled on the sidewalk in front of the bank's gate had caused the explosion.
The bank said the money transport van was not damaged in the blast and it drove away from the scene. No cash went missing in the incident.
