Suspect caught for slaying 4 in a family in Yunnan

POLICE in southwest China have caught a suspect who allegedly killed a 61-year-old man, his daughter-in-law and two grandchildren because he failed to borrow money from the murdered family.

Police of Kunming City, capital of Yunnan Province, said they seized the suspect at a check point 30 kilometers away from the village where the murder occurred around 2am on Monday, Chuncheng Evening News reported today.

Neighbors said they heard loud cries for help and ran to the family's house only to find the 61-year-old man surnamed Li, his 37-year-old daughter-in-law and his grandchildren aged 7 and 15 lying in a pool of blood.

The youngest child's arms and legs were nearly chopped off and had a long gash in his neck. He died on the way to hospital. The other three were stabbed several times and died at the scene.

The dead man's wife said she and a relative who was paralyzed on bed were locked up by her husband in another room and survived. She said she heard her husband saying "we don't have money... I have given you all I have."

The dead man's 300 yuan (US$46.38) was missing, family members said.

Police are still investigating the case.
