Suspect held after family slaughter

A MAN who allegedly killed five people and seriously injured another two after a doomed romance yesterday was seized just hours after the attack in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Suspect Shi Shengbing was caught about 5pm yesterday after 400 police officers scoured the countyside in heavy rain, China News Service quoted local police as saying.

Shi, in his 30s, allegedly attacked the family of his girlfriend in Huanjiang County's Yamai Village after her family strongly objected to their romance, the report said.

Local police reacted immediately by dispatching armed police troops and even firefighters to search for the suspect, who came from nearby Yuhe Village.

They set up checkpoints at road intersections as well as issuing posters of the suspect to vehicles passing through.
