Suspect held in fatal bus blast

POLICE in central China's Changsha in Hunan Province arrested a man suspected of setting fire to an airport shuttle bus, causing an explosion that killed at least two people.

The suspect Shen Haitao, 36, was arrested eight hours after the fire in a hospital where he and other victims were taken for treatment. Shen allegedly lit a canvas bag full of an inflammable substance, Changsha police said without saying what it was.

Shen was from Hunan's Yiyang City. He arrived at Huanghua airport in Changsha yesterday afternoon, hopped on a shuttle bus to downtown Changsha, and allegedly lit his bag on the full bus on an expressway.

Flame soon engulfed the bus. Shen opened a window and jumped out. Two people were killed and three were seriously burnt, while 11 others suffered minor burns.

The bus front was completely destroyed and investigation is continuing.

Last year in southwestern Chengdu City, a passenger lit a can of gasoline and caused an explosion that killed 27 people and injured dozens more.
