Suspect in deadly blast surrenders to police
The man believed to be connected to the blast killing of eight people on Saturday in north China's Hebei Province gave himself up to police yesterday morning.
A flat in a residential building in Baoding, a city in Hebei, with an illegal storage of more than 50,000 detonators, exploded on Saturday afternoon.
Hebei police said the death toll rose to eight after five more bodies were retrieved from the debris and wounded victims are still hospitalized.
The 38-year-old suspect, Ge Jinshui, allegedly told the police that he started a detonator business in 2009 with two relatives, and stored their goods in the flat. They were making detonators when the blast happened. Ge fled in time but his two relatives were killed.
Ge was later persuaded by his girlfriend to surrender to the police.
