Suspect killer of policeman caught
POLICE in Heilongjiang Province said yesterday they have caught the suspect who allegedly shot a deputy police chief dead on Sunday because he had been detained several times and held a grudge against the officer.
Sun Wei, deputy head of Tongjiang City's Public Security Bureau, was found covered in blood in his car in the city's Xinhua District on March 28. Police were called and found that he was shot in the head and died at the spot.
Officers said the suspect Liu Xiangjun, 45, allegedly confessed that he took some drugs on March 28 and suddenly felt that he wanted to kill Sun.
He borrowed a car and drove to the complex where Sun lived at around 6:30pm that day. He lurked in the car park for half an hour and shot Sun dead at 7pm when he came back home. Liu drove off after the shooting. Police arrested him the next morning.
Police said the suspect Liu was jailed three years for burglary in 1986, and was detained several times for street fights, drug taking, and holding explosives.
