Suspect seized after fatal shooting

THE suspect in a fatal shooting on Sunday night in northern China was seized just four hours later, police said yesterday.
Li Zhiying, 44, was being held by police at a guest house in Xi'an City, capital of Shaanxi Province, about midnight for allegedly shooting a 33-year-old woman dead, Xinhua news agency reported.
Li was reportedly caught with a rifle and 135 bullets at the guest house and had confessed to police.
Early media reports said a middle-aged man was seen firing three times toward a woman on Xi'an's Zhuque Avenue about 7:45pm on Sunday before fleeing in an SUV.
The victim, who was identified as Wei, was reportedly a sister of Li's ex-mistress.
Li tried to end the relationship but was facing demands of 60,000 yuan (US$8,779) by the pair, Xinhua said.
A witness said a gunman shot the woman and then drove off in a green SUV.
