Suspects caught in railway website hacking case
Railway police yesterday caught two people suspected of leaking the personal information of 12306.cn users. The suspects, surnamed Jiang and Shi, were accused of stealing personal information for illegal profit and police said they were still investigating the case.
Railway ticket buyers were advised to change their passwords after the website was hacked and the personal information of more than 130,000 users including names, passwords and e-mails leaked online yesterday.
China Railway Corporation said the data was leaked via other websites or channels, not its 12306.cn website. The leak came as the Spring Festival travel rush nears and millions of people use 12306.cn to buy train tickets so they can head home to be with their families. The railway police warned passengers to stay away from third-party software and web browsers.
