Suspects in boy's killing

TWO main suspects in a gunshot case in central China's Hunan Province in which an eight-year-old boy was shot dead have been arrested, the Xinhua news agency reported yesterday.

The two suspects, surnamed Tang and Shen, were nabbed after seven others involved in the case were arrested. Police said the shooting came from a conflict between two gambling gangs in Shaodong County.

The gangs had become enemies in Changsha, capital of Hunan Province. One of the gangs shot the boy on the street by accident while aiming for someone else. The boy surnamed Xie, a first-grade student, was shot when riding with his family on a motor tricycle in Shaodong County on April 3. He died at a hospital.

The incident occurred early in the morning when the boy was riding home with his parents and brother on a busy street, after the family finished midnight snacks at a downtown restaurant.

After the tricycle had moved only about 50 meters, the bullet penetrated the nontransparent oilcloth wrapping the cabin and hit the boy sitting inside with his mother and three-year-old brother, a relative onboard said.

The bullet was fired out the window of a black car that sped off after the shooting, according to a witness.
