Suspicious injuries on detained man's body
POLICE claimed a detained man died of an acute disease despite his injuries – his family said his body had the nipples rippled off, a fractured skull and wounded penis.
Wang Yahui died three days after he was taken into custody as a theft suspect in Lushan County, Henan Province. Police told Wang's family on February 22 that he had died from an acute disease but Wang's family found it hard to believe when they saw the damaged body, reported Chongqing Evening News today.
Wang's aunt surnamed Wu listed the injuries on Wang's bruised body. As a father of two, he was the sole family breadwinner.
An officer with Lushan police surnamed Yao said guards had given the prisoner water spiked with liquid cold medicine, and Wang had begun to act differently after drinking the water.
He added that he had no idea how Wang got his injuries.
The head of Lushan Police surnamed Li said four officers have been put in confinement and will be investigated.
This is the first suspicious death in a Chinese detention house this year.
