Swim club to open at the Water Cube

AN upscale swimming club will be set up in the north section of the National Aquatics Center in Beijing, a newspaper reported today.

The aquatics center, which is known as the Water Cube, will be divided into four sections – a swimming club, a swimming pool for international competitions, an office building and a water park, according to Wang Chun, an Olympic Park common area administration commission official, Beijing Times reported today.

The Water Cube has 6,000 fixed seats and 11,000 removable seats. However, only 1,600 seats are needed for international swimming competitions, Wang said.

"The commission will dismantle extra seats for an office building for staff while some space will also be leased," Wang was quoted as saying.

The water park will have a man-made beach and other entertainment facilities. It will be the biggest water park in Beijing when it opens to the public, the newspaper said.

The north zone of the Olympic Forest Park won't open to the public for two years, Wang added. "The second phase of construction is underway. We plan to plant some ancient trees from Shandong Province."
