Syringe-attack toddlers test negative

TWENTY-FOUR toddlers from a kindergarten in southwest China's Yunnan Province allegedly stabbed by their teacher with a syringe have tested negative for HIV and hepatitis B and C infection, local authorities said.

Sun Qiqi, the suspect detained over the alleged assault, was confirmed as being psychologically normal but her motive for the bizarre discipline was unknown, police said.

Education authorities in Jianshui County of Yunnan said both Sun and the kindergarten were unlicensed.

The 24 victims were confirmed after a parent called police, Yunnan's provincial news Web portal Yunnan.cn reported yesterday.

Sun was recruited by the Xihu kindergarten in Jianshui on September 12 this year.

She has confessed to stabbing the children in her class last Wednesday and Friday.
