TV claims suspend car inspections
A NUMBER of vehicle inspection stations in Jinan, capital of east China’s Shandong Province, have been suspended after they were accused of providing fake emissions reports.
Local environment authorities took action after a China Central TV report on Saturday.
Jinan Environmental Protection Center said yesterday that the stations named in the report had been ordered to suspend operations pending an investigation. The bureau’s investigation will cover all inspection stations in the city.
CCTV described one incident where the owner of a car that failed an emissions test at one center in the city then drove to a repair shop next door.
The shop owner asked for 200 yuan (US$31), CCTV said, and went back to the inspection center with the driver, where the vehicle passed a second test despite no repairs having been done. CCTV claimed that the shop owner and station staff shared the fee between them.
