TV journalist loses libel suit against colleague

A STATE-RUN TV network journalist has lost her suit against the renowned sports anchorman Huang Jianxiang for libeling her in a blog.

Beijing Chaoyang District People's Court ruled today that the evidence Lu You presented was inadequate to support her libeling charge, the China News Service reported.

It's unknown whether Lu will appeal the verdict.

Lu filed the suit for Huang's blogging dated June 6, 2008, which strongly criticized Ratomir Dujkovic for his job as the head coach (2006-2008) of China's men's soccer Olympic team.

Huang revealed in the blog that Dujkovic had an intimate relationship with a CCTV journalist, resulting in her ectopic pregnancy.

Lu said the blog, though not mentioning the journalist's name, has led the public to believe it referred to her after it was widely copied online.

That had caused huge damage to her reputation by exposing her privacy, she said. She also denied having such a relationship with the Serbian coach.

Huang used to be China's best-known soccer commentator with CCTV. He resigned in November 2006 after making offending comment on CCTV during a World Cup match between Italy and Australia. He was heard shouting "Long live Italy" and "Don't give Australia a chance."
