Tainted food sickens 70 pupils in Guizhou

ABOUT 70 children felt sick after having breakfast in their primary school in Zhijin County, southwestern Guizhou Province yesterday and 10 of them were hospitalized, the Oriental Morning Post reported today.

The students of Babu Town Central Primary School felt pain in the bowls and began to vomit after breakfast. They were all admitted to a local hospital for treatment. "No one is listed in serious condition," said Wang Ziming, a town official.

Initial findings indicate that food poisoning might be the cause of their sickness because eight other schools also reported similar problems, the report said.

Zhijin County has a total of 18 schools which are all supplied breakfast by the same food company, the report said.

Local authorities have suspended their food supply and sealed the problem breakfast for hygiene tests, the paper said.
