Taipei subway murderer sentenced to death in second trial
A Taiwan court upheld the death sentence for Cheng Chieh on Friday, who was convicted of four murders and multiple attempts to kill in a knife attack on a subway train last year.
Cheng was sentenced to death in March for having killed four people and injuring 22 by randomly stabbing passengers on a moving train on May 21 last year. He was 21 and a college student when he committed the crime.
The Taiwan high court, which heard Cheng's appeal, upheld the sentence of the first trial. He can appeal again.
In July, the city's subway witnessed another violent attack on passengers by a knife-wielding man. Four were injured.
