Taiwan honors best in music
Taiwan pop star Jolin Tsai was the big winner at the island鈥檚 Golden Melody Awards for Asian music.
Nominated in seven categories, she won best Mandarin album for 鈥淧lay,鈥 best vocal recording album and best single producer.
Celebrities and musicians from the Chinese-speaking world attended Saturday night鈥檚 ceremony.
Screaming fans at the entrance to the Taipei Arena saw their favorite stars walk the red carpet, including Jay Chou, a best album nominee for 鈥淎iyo, Not Bad,鈥 and Eason Chan, who was named best Mandarin male singer.
A-Mei was named best Mandarin female singer for her album 鈥淔aces of Paranoia.鈥
Buddha Jump, an indie rock band headed by singer-songwriter Penny Tai, bagged two awards, best band and best arrangement.
Best new artist award went to Boxing, a band that mixes Taiwan music with rap beats.
