Tax bureau chief suspended for owning 139 properties
THE head of a state taxation bureau in Guangdong Province was suspended because he reportedly owned 139 properties in a shopping complex.
Luo Shaoqiang, head of the Zhongtang branch of the state taxation bureau in Dongguan City in the province, is now under investigation, the city's taxation bureau said.
Luo was suspected of receiving control of these properties, which are worth more than 30 million yuan (US$4.88 million) at current market value, in the Dongguan Xianghong Complex, with illegal income and his position as local tax chief.
Luo didn't not publicly declared ownership of these properties, as it is required for government officials.
Luo's ownership of the large number of properties was publicized by Wang Jianrong, chairman and founder of Xianghong, over a conflict of interest, according to a local newspaper.
Luo's wife is related to Wang.
Luo became involved in Wang's shopping complex because Wang needed investors and believed future business could benefit from Luo's position as head of the state taxation bureau in Zhongtang, a town in Dongguan.
A dispute between Luo and Wang erupted due to weak demand for the properties after the complex opened in 2010, according to Guangzhou Daily.
