Tax official sentenced to 10 years for statutory rape

AN official in southwestern China was sentenced to 10 years in prison today for raping a girl under 14.

Cuiping District People's Court in Yibin City, Sichuan Province, found Lu Yumin, a tax official in Yibin, guilty of rape and deserving of severe punishment due to his position as a civil servant, Scol.com.cn, news portal of Sichuan Province, reported.

Mou Qiong and Mou Siting, who introduced the girl to Lu, were accessories to the rape, said the court.

Mou Qiong was found to have encouraged the victim to have sex with Lu and was sentenced to nine years in jail, according to the court.

Mou Siting, Mou Qiong's nephew, was less than 18 years old when he committed the offense and deserved a lenient punishment, the report said.

The indictment said Lu, former director of Yibin State Taxation Bureau's Baihua branch, demanded Mou Qiong introduce him to virgins to have sex with in October. Mou Siting found the victim, according to the report.

She was brought to a hotel by both Mous to have sex with Lu on December 20. Lu paid 6,000 yuan (US$878) for the deal.
According to China's criminal law, having sex with a female under 14 is statutory rape.
