Taxi apps a hit in Jiangxi
MOBILE phone apps for booking taxis are making life easier for commuters keen to avoid the snowstorms that have been sweeping the country.
In Nanchang, capital of east China’s Jiangxi Province, the apps proved invaluable for people in need of transport after snow jammed the city on Sunday.
Local resident Yan Jin said the apps are really useful. “Once you press the button on your mobile phone, a taxi will come to get you.”
Taxi drivers are also fans.
Zhong Wenbin, a driver in Nanchang, said that his business is booming thanks to the subsidies paid out by the owners of the software.
“I make 100 yuan (US$16.50) more a month,” Zhong said.
Companies like Tencent and Alibaba have invested heavily in subsidy schemes to promote their online payment services.
In January, Didi, a taxi-hailing app with investment from Tencent, launched an incentive scheme that pays both passengers and drivers a 10-yuan subsidy if the fare is settled via Tencent’s WeChat program.
