Tea farmers get busy during harvest season
IT’S time for tea, at least in Tianxin Village in Wuyishan City, southeast China’s Fujian Province.
Tea farmers are now busy making Wuyi Rock Tea as its harvest season. Wuyi Rock Tea, known as Dahongpao, which literally means big red robe, is the most premium brand of Chinese oolong tea. Making Dahongpao tea includes 18 separate steps and only experienced experts can make the best quality tea. The techniques involved in making the tea were listed as a national intangible culture heritage in 2006. Wuyishan, which has 9,200 hectares of tea plantations, annually produces 7,300 metric tons of tea worth 1.53 billion yuan (US$245 million).
