Teacher arrested for molesting girl students

A rural school teacher has been arrested for molesting girls in Wuwei County, eastern Anhui Province, police said.
The middle-aged teacher surnamed Xu in the Sanshuijian Primary School was accused of "fondling the hips" of eight of the nine fourth-grade girl students in his class, the Jianghuai Morning Post reported today.
A 11-year-old girl identified as Xiao Xue said: "The teacher touched me inside my trousers and wanted to give me one yuan (US$0.16), but I didn't accept."
"Once or twice, Xu took off his underwear and asked me to fondle him," she added.
Other victims said Xu asked them to go to a storage room in the school and molested them there. Afterwards, he gave them a few yuan to keep their mouth shut.
Xu's sexual abuse came to light this September when a girl identified as Xiao Fang told her parents that Xu "gave other girls money but forgot to give her," which roused her father's suspicion.
Her father then talked to other parents and found their daughters had been molested. The outraged parents reported it to the police.
After his scandal became known, Xu was under overwhelming stress and tried to end his life with pesticides but was saved.
He was arrested on Monday and will face charges in court. If he is convicted, he may get up to five years in imprisonment, lawyer Ding Yiping said.
