Teacher burns children for talking in classroom
A FEMALE kindergarten teacher in Xinghua City, Jiangsu Province, burned seven children in her class on the face with an electric iron on Tuesday because they chatted on her class, the Yangtze Evening Post reported yesterday.
The 30-year-old teacher surnamed Yi from Banqiao Kindergarten has been detained by the police, and the kindergarten has promised to send all of the injured children to Shanghai for treatment and to pay for the medical costs.
Cheng Sixia saw that her six-year-old son, surnamed Cui, had injured both sides of his face when she went to the kindergarten to pick him up on Tuesday.
When she asked what had happened, Yi claimed that Cui had fallen down in the toilet, however Cheng was not convinced by her story.
Eventually, Cheng learned from one of Cui's classmates that her son was actually hurt by "something that is used for ironing clothes."
A parent told the newspaper that when Yi was attacking the children in her class, another teacher happened to be passing by. When she heard the cries of distress from the classroom, she rushed in and snatched the iron out of Yi's hands.
The Xinghua government said in a press conference on Thursday that Yi's actual intention was merely to frighten the children with the iron. Yi claims she had turned the iron off some time earlier and thought that it had gone cool.
The headmaster of the kindergarten surnamed Tong said the electric iron was not kindergarten property and that she had no idea where Yi's iron had come from.
